AMEP participates in the 15th Mongolian Mineral Exploration Round-up 2023

AMEP 2 participated in the 15th Mongolian Mineral Exploration Round-up held at the Corporate Convention Centre between March 30th and 31st, 2023. An annual event since 2009, the Round-up features a series of activities and events such as plenary sessions, mineral and industry exhibitions, and training and capacity building sessions.

This year AMEP2 participated in the plenary session with a presentation given by AMEP2 Team Lead Rena Guenduez, highlighting the programs key activities linked to geology in support of strengthening Mongolia’s investment environment through its collaborative partners.  Rena Guenduez highlighted that “prospecting and exploration is the driving force behind ensuring investment interest and financial viability for mining operations”. She highlighted that since the implementation of AMEP 1 in 2015, the program has engaged in over 10 activities ranging from digital management such as supporting the Government of Mongolia’s establishment of the National Geological Survey and public and private data entry into MonGeoCat as well as geological map modernization.  Activities have also included the development of 17 Guidelines for Prospecting, Exploration and Reporting enabling standardized and streamlined processes to the Assessment of Mineral Deposit Valuation Codes and Valuations systems leading to support for the MONVAL Committee.  AMEP 2 has also been active in supporting research with its partners citing Australian best practice examples for improved geo science data on coal bed methane. She also highlighted AMEP 2’s current engagement with local communities at the soum level on youth geology training as well as its current activity on strengthening Professional Associations.

The AMEP2 team also hosted a booth in the exhibition space, receiving more than 100 visitors, who were able to ask questions and to receive past and current program and activity information.  Visitors included government, industry, and professional experts in the field as well as the programs collaborative partners.
